Corporate Charter
Our vision, goals, values and principles are a set of guiding principles for how we go about our work. Being clear about our role enables us to move forward together with common purpose and work effectively with our partners.
Our Vision
Our vision is to establish and operate an Office of Commercialisation at each of the eight NSW Area Health Services and to have these working together to get maximum scale, patient benefit and operational cost efficiency for each of the individual Area Health Services, the NSW Department of Health and The Hon Minister for Health.
Our Goals
To get our inventions to market to improve the quality of patient care.
Our Difference
The Office of Commercialisation (OoC) operates within a risk, integrity and transparency environment which is significantly different to its partners in Universities and other public entities working in the health sector.
Firstly, the OoC is managing and commercialising intellectual property which is owned by The NSW Hon. Minister for Health through the NSW Government Department of Health. In any negotiations involving other government organisations, whether they are international or Australian, the OoC, being the NSW government, has a much stronger negotiating position than either a University or a smaller public entity.
Secondly, the $7.8 billion AUD size of NSW Department of Health, or the $1.6 billion AUD size of Sydney West Area Health Service, or the $2.8 billion AUD size of the combined Northern Sydney Central Coast and Sydney West Area Health Services gives the OoC a much stronger negotiating position than any University in Australia or any other NSW public entity.
Thirdly, the OoC is subject to government audit regulations and integrity, equity and transparency practices must be followed.
Fourthly, the commercial and patient risks that the OoC is permitted to enter into are significantly different for a public entity than for a University.
Fifthly, the inventors who are producing the intellectual property within the OoC hospitals are also the market or the consumers of the resulting products, and this is a unique commercial negotiating position when the inventor and the consumer/market are the same entity.
